OSCE Ketamine Laryngospasm

An OSCE case involving an 11-month-old child with cystic fibrosis who developed laryngospasm and cardiac arrest following ketamine induction for intubation. Candidates must recognise ketamine-induced laryngospasm as the likely cause, outline contraindications for ketamine use, describe the stepwise management of laryngospasm (positive pressure, Larson’s notch, paralysis and intubation), and demonstrate sensitive, supportive communication when debriefing the registrar.
